Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

BERWYN (October, 2011) – The City of Berwyn with the assistance of a fully funded grant, has completed the installation of three Level 2 charging stations within the City. The City wishes to encourage greater use of green transportation alternatives by providing publicly accessible charging stations for residents, regardless of whether or not they have access to charging in a personal garage, and to those visiting or working in the City.

Two Level 2 charging stations are located in the City’s Municipal Parking Structure at 3320 Grove Avenue and one level 2 charging station is located at 7003 West Ogden Avenue, outside the Route 66 Museum. The Level 2 charging station provides a full charge in 2 – 6 hours, is self-service and easy to operate. A Level 3 charging station is also located within the Municipal Parking Structure and is able to charge a vehicle within 20 minutes.

Redlight Cameras

*** DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR SCHEDULED HEARING DATE BY CALLING 1-877-262-3318 BETWEEN 9:00A.M. AND 5:00 P.M. THE DAY BEFORE THE HEARING. ***

The City of Berwyn several Red-Light Violation cameras within the city limits that are located at:

- Harlem Avenue and Cermak Road

- Harlem Avenue and Odgen Avenue

To avoid receiving a Red-Light Violation all you need do is to adhere to the “Rules of the Road”, the official State of Illinois publication used for driver education and study book for obtaining a drivers license. Here is a reminder:

Red light: Stop at the marked stop line. If there is not a marked stop line, stop before entering the crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, stop before entering the intersection. Do not go until the light is green and the intersection is clear.

You may make a right turn at a red light or a left turn at a red light when turning from a one-way street onto another one-way street that has traffic moving to the left. In both instances, drivers must come to a complete stop and yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before turning. A good rule of thumb is that once you come to a complete stop, is to wait three (3) seconds by counting … one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three.

What is a Complete Stop?

Remember that a rolling stop is a term used in traffic law to refer to when a vehicle fails to come to a complete stop. A complete stop is when there is no forward momentum and the needle on the speedometer is at 0. In a rolling stop, the car wheels are still in motion and the car is moving at less than 5 mph. Failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign or stop light is a traffic violation in Illinois. The longer you stop, the more discernable it is to either the naked eye or to a red light camera that you were in compliance. The legal definition of a complete stop is when the cars rocks backward upon coming to a complete stop.

Residential Streetlight LED Upgrades

The City of Berwyn has begun upgrading the existing street lighting along the residential streets with Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. LED lighting burns brighter and more uniform therefore reducing dark patches between lighting sources and providing better color recognition. LED lighting produces less glare and has an instant start to reach optimal brightness levels in comparison to the time delay of conventional street lighting. LED lighting is energy efficient, returning 50% to 80% savings over conventional lighting and reducing emissions. LED bulbs require less maintenance because they last longer and are less susceptible to breakage.
